Sometimes it is useful to describe certain key functionality within a Bounded Context, other times you just know that some things have to be included. The Modules tab is well suited to that.
The idea is not to think through every necessary module up front. Quite the opposite, let it grow organically during development. But some modules you already know from the start will be needed, and those can usefully be added here.
factor10's customers are free to use the Generic modules. They are at a pre-open-source stage, but you can regard them as open source in every respect. Many of the modules are made for self-service solution configurators. That kind of system turns up again and again for us. Each initiative is usually very different from the previous one, but some modules recur all the same. They can of course also be useful in any other kind of initiative.
We hold that generic modules should be harvested from concrete initiatives rather than invented. We ask our customers whether we may harvest what we think is interesting for others and is generic. Modules with specific functionality we never harvest.
